Poetic Expression Challenges
June Challenges
The first challenge assignment for June was the participation in an "Add-a-Line" poem. The CL began with the first line and sends the poem to the group with a list of who comes next. Each person writes ONE LINE ONLY in contribution. It proved to be a lot of fun to see the direction in which this poem went. The names in brackets at the end of each line refers to who authored that particular line).
~ Add-a-Line ~
The night sky stretched above me in a dome of midnight blue, (Grandma Lyn)
I gazed above at stars so bright, my mind and heart on you. (Tam)
To my surprise and delight I saw a shooting star (LadyCrystal)
I closed my eyes and made a wish and wondered where you are (Lady Deb)
My thoughts drift back to when we met, and linger in the past (Ada)
Bringing tears to my eyes, knowing it just didn't last. (Humm)
And yet I feel the memory still of your touch, your warmth, your kiss (Christina)
And I wonder if I'm someone that you think about and miss (Brisa)
Do you remember all the good times that we had so long ago? (Black Rose)
Or do you just remember me as a girl you used to know? (Raven)
I remember it all, the good and the bad (Cheri)
And, oh, these memories are driving me mad. (Lonesome Dove)
But Memories both sweet and sad must needs be put aside
So I can think and touch and feel - in today I must abide. (Maiden Fair)

2nd to 7th June, 2005
This challenge was our second mini assignment for this month, and we were to write a poem beginning with the line "one of these days...." Of course, guess what came to MY mind?? hehehe
~ One of these Days.... ~
One of these days I'll go to bed
at a more normal hour,
Then I'll awake far more refreshed
without such a long shower!
One of these days come morning
when I first open my eyes
I won't be greeted by the shock
it's later than I realised!
One of these days I'll find the time
to put my thoughts to bed
But here I am still tinkering
on the Internet instead!
One of these days my first port of call
won't be the computer room,
I'll wash the floors, the dishes and clothes,
but then maybe hell might freeze over soon!
Yes, one of these days I might do something
other than compute,
But if I honestly didn't have this vice
then I'd never met any of you!!

I wrote this one just this evening when one of the women in the Snail Mail Garden in WOSIB wrote in and said to me "one of these days....my mail will arrive", as she had posted it four weeks prior. Those words led to the inspiration to write this poem. hehehe
~ One of these Days....The Mail to Arrive ~
One of these days
my mail will arrive
And then it will seem
like a big surprise....
For you may have thought
I'd forgotten you,
But I hadn't, it's just
it's so slow getting through.
One of these days
you will wake and see
By just pure chance
the mailman has been....
For when you're not looking
when you least expect
A letter arrives,
see? I did not forget.
One of these days
a heart racing still
In anticipation
of more than just bills....
A tinker, an echo
of the postman's bike
It's a race to the postbox
to see what's inside!
One of these days
we'll find it is true
That each moment we share
is a friendship renewed....
A letter, a postcard,
a thought that we care
A reminder no matter
that we are still there.
One of these days
though long overdue
There'll come a surprise ~
my letter to you!
When you least expect it
you'll open to find
That one of these days
a letter is mine!

This third poem I wrote as part of the second mini assignment reflects a more sombre mood. It's about taking chances, or being afraid to take chances....and missing out.
~ One of these Days....A Little Time ~
One of these days I'll find the time
to stop and look at God's design
Of beauty in its vast surrounds
And the vibrant sun shining down.
One of these days I'll smell the blooms
The sweetness of its rich perfumes
Embrace myself in sheer delight
When basking in the warm sunlight.
One of these days I know I'll find
The meaning to this life of mine
And until then I'll surely be
Lost within eternity.
One of these days my time will come
When everything is said and done
And only then my eyes shall see
What really lay in front of me.
One of these days a darkened place
Will wrap me in its cold embrace
And all because I never took
A little time to take a look.

11th June, 2005
This challenge was the third mini assignment for this month and it was a "Dear Diary" entry, written in either rhyme or free form, using the ten challenge words supplied (highlighted). This was my contribution.
Dear Diary,
Still in the glow of passion
of his warm embrace
I feel his footsteps on my heart,
his kiss so sweet to taste....
Oh desire yearning
a thirst taking ahold
Two bodies in the darkness
as one celestial soul....
And there I hear his heartbeat
in the shadows of the night
Its silence is unending
to bring me such delight....
And yet I feel so empty,
it was just a bit of fun
Reflections stare in disbelief,
my God, what have I done?

This is the second "Dear Diary" entry I wrote using the same ten challenge words, a little more melancholy this one.
~ Heartache ~
Dear Diary, I'm thinking
reflecting time and space
Of all the years of darkness
that I've missed his embrace....
Silence is overwhelming
the shadows of the heart
The yearning for his footsteps
that lead into my arms....
And yet I share a disbelief
that life has surely thrown
A heartache that will never die
I thought I'd never know....
Void of understanding
I hear a lone heartbeat
Two bodies in the afterglow,
a life made so complete....
But now I am reflecting
within the silent wake
The memories that still haunt me
of every breath I take....
Why not me, I ask thee,
why...? I do not know,
And yet I find I'm left behind
in faith's warm celestial glow.
