Poetic Expression Challenges
September Challenges
The first challenge assignment for this month was to write a four line verse from a child's viewpoint beginning with the words "When I grow up...." Once I started, I couldn't stop! We had some fun with these.
~1~
When I grow up I want to be
Someone who sees the best in me
'Cause if I don't then no one will
And I'll grow up unhappy still.
~2~
When I grow up I'll take delight
In staying up till late at night
No mum or dad to say "off to bed"
'Cause I'll be all growed up instead!
~3~
When I grow up I'd like to try
Reaching for the stars so high
With all the things I want to do
I hope my dreams will all come true.
~4~
When I grow up I'll be mum
Who let's her kids have so much fun,
No boring things like chores or rules
And they'll never have to go to school!
~5~
When I grow up to be a man
I will be big and strong
Like Rambo no one will mess with me
and I'll never be wrong!
~6~
When I grow up I'll have a maid
To wash and clean for me all day
And then I'll never have to do
These chores my mother makes me do.
~7~
When I grow up I'll be a star
full of style and grace
My beauty will be talked about...
as I wipe chocolate from my face.
~8~
When I grow up chocolate will be
Something we can get for free
So we can eat it every day,
Mmmmmmm....chokky is the only way!
The second September mini assignment was to write a poem using ten challenge words, and for the first time I wrote one as short as I possibly could using all ten words.
~ New Life ~
Promises forgotten
sunny winter days
The glorious abundance
reflected in array.....
A fragrance sweet as honey
no sorrow more to bear
To seek a different future
through the hidden doorway there.

This is my second poem using the ten challenge words given us this assignment. A poem I wrote in tribute to the Hurricane Katrina victims.
~ Doorway to Tomorrow ~
Promises forgotten
a tragedy unfolds
A heartache now reflected
a different kind of soul
As honey-coloured waters
now shroud the city streets
A glorious abundance
rises from their defeat
A sunny beam, a rainbow
a future mapped upon
The sorrows left within the wake
a storm that's come and gone
A hope that's not forgotten
will bring a brighter day,
A promise for tomorrow
through life's hidden doorway.
