Poetic Expression Challenges

April Challenges

For our first mini assignment of April, ACL Lady Deb provided a picture that was sure to inspire some interesting and possibly amusing poems, and where we were to write a poem about whatever this picture makes us think of, or however it inspires us.

~ Insomnia ~

Sleep does come but not enough
to rest this weary head
And try as I might into the night
I lay awake instead.

Oh how I long for pleasant dreams
in which I can escape
But I only find within my mind
My thoughts keep me awake.

So many things I jot down on
a mental list to do
But still I wish my weariness
would bring me dreams come true.

Oh wish I may, and wish I might
that sleep would come to me
Oh sandman please, now don't you tease
just let my soul fly free.

So as I lay me down to sleep
and close my weary eyes
I wish again my faithful friend
would come as a surprise.

I'm drifting now into a place
upon those clouds so white,
Do not disturb, don't say a word,
I'm going to sleep tonight.

Our second mini assignment was to write a poem using all ten challenge words.

~ New Life ~

Raindrops on the windowpane
a stillness in the air
The scent of lilac branches
trailing everywhere,
As springtime gently wakens
from winter's weary sleep
A thousand dreams and miracles
are gifts for us to keep,
The faint and fragrant petals
as each precious rose unfolds
Revealing all its beauty
and wonder it beholds,
Within the velvet cascades
that waken to the morn
And gaze into our heart and soul
each time new life is born.

And for our third mini assignment ~ to write a silly little ditty beginning with "If I were a vegetable..." Mine was rather unique

If I were a vegetable
I KNOW I would be
Chocolate 'cause it comes
from a plant, you see...
Yes, cocoa's a plant
of material form
From where the delectable beauty
of chocolate is born!
Yes, if I were a vegetable
I know it is true
That I would be chocolate,
mmm, how about you?
So next time you refrain
from that sweetest delight
Remember cocoa's a plant
making chocolate all right!
