Poetic Expression Challenges

February Challenges

We're all familiar with the verse "Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you". Our first Mini Assignment for February was to write a parody of this, just for fun.

Roses are red
oh how I love you
So tell me again
when the phone bill is due!

Roses may be red
but love and romance
Live only in something
that isn't a man!

Roses are red
or pure and white
Or as blessed as the one
who is always right!

Roses inspire
the sweetest delights
As I tap at the keyboard
well into the night!

Roses are red
their fragrant delight
Somehow makes things
a watery sight!

Roses and petals
in fragrant perfume,
A shower of colour
on the bride and groom.

Our second mini assignment for February was to fill in the blanks of a Valentine limerick (highlight in italics and yellow)
Sweet hubby lights the heart divine
And he gives a smile of knowing kind
A great holiday
For lovers to play
While he sleeps, Be My Valentine!

Sleepy Stina lights the lamp divine
And she opens a book of suspense defined
A one holiday
For couples to play,
And he sleeps, Be My Valentine!

For our 3rd mini assignment for February we were to pretend that we are a fairy-tale princess and are writing in our journal, using all ten challenge words.
castle, encounter, precious, corridor, faraway, evil, tower, destiny, golden, overlooking

~ A Princess' Destiny ~

I sit here overlooking
a land so faraway
A corridor to life beyond
yet I cannot escape.

Within this castle tower
my destiny awaits
A golden dream of nothing but
what is to be my fate.

A fairy-tale, you really think?
I wish it could have been
But evil is all around me
except within my dreams.

And so upon this night of nights
a precious memory
Defined by the encounter of
the man whose wife I'll be.
