Poetic Expression Challenges
April Challenges
For our first mini assignment for April, we were to write a 4-line verse to the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean", using as the first line the words "I wonder why ______ were invented."
I wonder why men were invented
can anyone hazard a guess?
Like little boys but only bigger
they're the epitome of PMS!

I wonder why spiders were invented
and why do they sit on my wall?
They're creepy and terribly ugly,
and only make my skin crawl!

This assignment, each member had to come up with one word that would be included in a list of challenge words, all of which had to be included in a poem.
midnight...computer...pressure...rhapsody...child...trinkets...quest...harmony...gossamer...imagination
~ A Writer's Rhapsody ~
Midnight at the computer
I ponder now my quest
And delve the imagination
for errant words at best
To paint the gossamer picture
in brilliant harmony
Like a child in a candy store
my soul in rhapsody
Infinite in wonder
trinkets by design
These words etched deep within the hearts
so preciously sublime
And so the clock keeps ticking
as thoughts begin to form
The pressure of a writer
as my night turns into morn.

The third mini assignment for April was to write a poem beginning with the line
"I opened the door and to my surprise.....". I wrote mine 2 months late, but here got there in the end. lol
~ "Sheer" Surprise ~
I opened the door and to my surprise
Standing there before my eyes
Puffing away on his cigarette
Was a sight I'd not forget!
A look that danced within his eye
While I thought I'd surely die
For he wore nothing but a smile
And I stood silent in denial.
Could this be the man I married
Standing there oh-so unharried,
In the yard for all to see
All of his masculinity.
