Poetic Expression Challenges
July Challenges
For our first mini assignment we were to write a poem about our favourite flower (other than the rose, since we'd already written about them recently).
~ Australia's Bouquet ~
Bouquets in abundance
native to our land
That grow within the wild
and traced by nature's hand
An array of wondrous colours
a vast kaleidoscope
Painted on the landscape here
where wild flowers grow
Amidst the scent of eucalypt
and the temperate bush that shades
Stands the vibrant beauty
of the Waratah's bouquet
It's thick tenacious features
endures the extremes
Within this rugged nation
of cold and wind and heat
It's found within the forests
that stretch along the coast
Upon the eastern seaboard
where its beauty boasts
The vibrant floral emblem
for the state of New South Wales
A strength and richness so intense
the Waratah prevails
And yet to see its beauty
one must be fortunate
For where these wild flowers grow
depends on the climate
Though no other can surpass it
we still have much beauty,
Just look around this winter
and you'll find the Wattle Tree.

5th July, 2007
Our 3rd mini was for everyone to try writing a limerick about another Garden member (doesn't have to be someone in PE). It doesn't have to be true....you can make it as silly as you like. I have posted mine along with another member's (Linda) as our limericks became silly responses to one another. *g* Linda's limerick started us off....
I am an dinkum Aussie like Steeny,
Who is definitely not a meany.
She writes and writes and gets involved
Never happy til problems solved,
And her great poetic muse is a "keeny".

A dinkum Aussie Miss Adelaide?
From somewhere over the Mersey way
It had come about
A climate of drought
You traded in place of the rain!

Oh Grandma Lyn please, please stop her,
Or I really shall be forced to bop her,
She teases me so about my age,
It's a wonder I don't fly into a rage
Let's send her to Sunhill to a Copper,

You keep this up dear Linda
Or I shall be pointing the finger
At the imminent age
That beckons today
For me to dangle and hinder!
BUT......
What a wonderful idea to send me
To SunHill with Smiffy and Mickey
Oh such great delight
It won't be a plight
In fact, dear, don't even tempt me!

Christina my friend you gave me your word
And I am sure you most definitely heard,
That no celebrations are needed
I sure hope that you have heeded
But I know that you never would have dared.
You go to Sunhill, and I to Midsomer
Time with Tom would be such a hummer,
But for you - what the heck
What about poor old Becks?
And I shall have a glorious summer

To be fair to the other members, Linda and I stopped our limerick writing....though Grandma Lyn said she was laughing too hard to be of any help. *g* LOL
