Poetic Expression Challenges

March Challenges

For our first mini assignment was to write a a story poem, where we each write FOUR RHYMING LINES that continue the story already started.

The last two days had been a nightmare, filled with constant fright....
She watched through dusty cobwebs as the flickering lantern light
Slowly dimmed in the distance where the tunnel curved out of sight....
Then as she sat in darkness, something rustled in the night.... (GrandmaLyn)

She huddled closer to the wall as terror filled her heart
She felt someone was watching her, fear ripping her apart
Did they know that she had followed them and should she now depart
Or should she stay and watch what horrors would take part.... (ReneƩ)

Fleeing was not an option that her conscience could face
Though her dark clad body did tremble, her young heart did race
She had finally tracked them down to their own home base
Though she wasn't really dressed for this in her silks and lace. (LadyV)

She reached to the depths inside
To her soul where strength and courage could hide
An unstoppable force in herself she untied
An unseen emotion that would not be denied. (Windstorm)

She woke up out of a dead sleep
There was a secret that she was forced to keep
The knock on the door was way too deep
What was that she said as she began to weep (Selena)

Her words were mumbled as she jolted out of bed
Visions, thoughts, emotions were circling around in her head
Who's outline was she seeing in the door frame
Was this a dream, was it real, a mystery, or just a game? (Tdybear4ever)

"Who's there?", she whispered, as her fear began to swell
There was someone creeping closer, just who she couldn't tell
"What do you want with me?" she asked, as the shadow fell
She couldn't move, she was frozen, as if under the stranger's spell (Raven)

She awaited the strangers request of what he wished to do with her.
She asked again what do you want with me or what do you plan to do with me.
She then closed her eyes and opened them again looking at the shadow
she did not recognize something happened she did not expect to see (Annsea146)

The stranger shuffled slowly, into the lantern's light
He couldn't go any further though he tried with all his might
He collapsed across the threshold, barely mumbling in her direction
"Look in the mirror, please ma'am, look at your reflection!" (Valentine)

She hesitated, as she tried to calmed her dread
She glanced toward the mirror and a quiet voice said "Go ahead."
Expecting to see her tear stained face, she received a shock instead.
Her heart raced, and her nightmarish thoughts continued to spread. (Ada)

Blood draining the colour from her pale face
As she stared in the mirror's dark empty space,
For there was no image, no reflection to see
Just the velvet black silence of infinity. (Christina)

The emotions that she could feel coming from deep within her soul
Looking into the emptiness of her reflection made her feel so cold
She new now that she had passed into another time, that was about to unfold
Her spirit now was leaving behind the fears of all that could never be told (Tootypup)

She could see besides the broken mirror the body she once occupied
Dressed in her gown of silk and lace , hair flowing by its side
Was she in another place or time or had she really died
Tears streamed down from her empty soul until she could no longer cry

The tombstone read "Our Maiden Fair has passed onto a new land"
With the fears she had, or were they dreams, of faces she couldnt understand
But they are all resting now with her, as she watches from her stand
Above the heavens she now sits and guides us with gentle hand. (Lady Deb)

With St. Patrick's Day approaching, our second mini assignment for March is to write a poem for which the title might be "The Pot of Gold".

~ Pot of Gold ~

Beyond every rainbow
there is a pot of gold
With treasure so abounding
it can't be bought or sold;

A value so much greater
than we think of its worth,
A kindly deed or gesture
we sprinkle here on earth.

A rainbow is a promise
of something so much more
A beauty in abundance
of all it holds in store;

A gentle understanding
and tender loving care
A blessing painted in the sky
its reminder we find there.

So you see beyond the myriad
it really does exist
We only need to find its worth
within the heart that gives;

Instead of chasing wishful dreams
to reach that rainbow's end
Stop and look beyond the wealth
to the value of a friend.
